Kenya Flores

I’m Kenya Flores, a Mexican illustrator and graphic designer human based in Germany. I work with editorial illustration to create visual narratives that accompany and expand the meaning of texts.

My practice is diverse: books, press, design, animation, and other formats that don’t always fit neatly into a single category. I see illustration as a way to make space for more inclusive perspectives, where identities often left out of dominant visual narratives can be seen.

Although my work is rooted in culture and identity, I enjoy collaborating on a wide range of projects and building stories together.

In my personal work, I return to my own story. It is a process of searching, exploring, and reconnecting with what was, what wasn’t said, and what has shifted over time. As the granddaughter of Indigenous grandparents and a Nahuatl-speaking grandfather, I find memories, visual symbols, and questions there. I also encounter what was no longer shared and what was once hidden as a way to protect oneself from exclusion. From that place, my practice becomes a path of reconciliation and celebration, shaping old stories, creating new ones, and opening space for dialogue.

Roots connect the past with the present, not only through memory but also through the possibility of bringing together different parts of who we are.
