Roland Sárkány (1972)

Hungarian illustrator. He has been working for publishers and magazines, as well as creating posters since 1989. The world that he brings to life by means of his graphics evokes old times. He considers classical graphic training an essential skill for an illustrator.

His drawing style is precise and mature, while his favorite topics include literature illustrations and history. A commission is not a task with limitations for him: it is rather a challenge in which his artistic ideas are visible by means of his own visual world. The final graphics carry in themselves the ability to reproduce and recall the joy felt when viewing an autonomous visual image. This intention can also be discovered in his phrases, drawing a parallel between soundtracks and illustrations:

“Illustration is like a good soundtrack, it lives together with the work of art, providing a sound for the essence of the piece of literature. But in the meantime it also stands as a separate genre, just as excellent incidental music can be enjoyed even without the film.”
