Biography Mariko Jesse Mariko was born in Japan, spent her childhood in Hong Kong, and was educated in England. She studied at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London, where she is currently an Associate Lecturer. Mariko has worked for various international clients, including VOGUE, Tiffany & Co., the BBC, Martha Stewart, The Boston Globe, and The Mandarin Oriental. She has illustrated many children’s books, and created the permanent interior artwork for an entire subway station in HK. Her work celebrates the patterns, colours and textures of different cultures, the mixture of East and West. She especially loves working on the themes of food, interiors, travel and Asia. Mariko spends as much time in the print studio as she can, working in intaglio and lithography. She has attended various international artists’ residencies, and was recently awarded a scholarship to study Japanese woodblock printing in Japan. She has exhibited internationally, and her art can be found in private collections around the world. She currently splits her time equally between Asia and Europe. |
